LENNON TAKES THIRD IN OLYMPIA WORLD CUP CLASS

IRELAND'S Dermott Lennon claimed third place in a thrilling jump-off in the Rolex World Cup Qualifier competition at Olympia, England Sunday evening, recording just one of three double clear rounds from a starting field of 34.

With some of the world's best riders vying for prize money and valuable World Cup points, it was the 42 year-old Banbridge man who broke through to the 11-horse jump off aboard Woods Rosbotham's bay gelding Hallmark Elite, with Ireland's only other competitor, Billy Twomey, failing to make the cut after an unfortunate mistake in the first round with Sue Davies's Tinka's Serenade .

Lennon, a former world champion, was also the first rider to produce a zero score in the jump-off, but saw Germany's Marcus Ehning eventually beat his time with the Sandro Boy mare Sabrina to take the runner-up spot.

Britain's Ben Maher, much to the delight of the home crowd, then shaved a third of a second off Ehning's time with the stallion Tripple X III, and took the Rolex trophy and the 33,000 euro first prize.

Lennon's return to the top rank of international show jumping was rewarded with 13,200 euro in prize money for his place.
