Runner-up finish for Anthony Condon and Aristio in Vilamoura Grand Prix

CO WATERFORD’s Anthony Condon scored a runner-up finish in the curtain-closing three-star Grand Prix at Vilamoura today (Sunday), as the 10 week long Atlantic Tour came to a conclusion at the Portuguese seaside venue.
Condon partnered the John Hales-owned stallion Aristio to one of five double clear rounds and their jump-off time of 48.18 seconds saw them finish just behind Danish winner Martin Dinesen Neergaard with Woulon L.
Condon and Aristio have begun the season in impressive form, jumping a double clear round in February’s United Arab Emirates Nations Cup, where they also recorded a top 10 finish in the Grand Prix.
Meanwhile, the Winter Equestrian Festival in Florida also came to a finish this weekend, with Cork-born Shane Sweetnam crowned the overall leading rider of the 2016 Suncast Championship Series.
On winning the award, Sweetnam said: “It is fantastic. It shows consistency over the whole circuit. It is not just one horse. Between my oldest horse and my youngest horse, they all played a part in it.”
The Irish Sport Horse Codarco and American rider Chloe Reid finished seventh in the concluding $500,000 Rolex Grand Prix, which was won by Britain’s Ben Maher and Sarena.
Equinimity LLC, owners of Carrabis Z who is ridden by Kilkenny’s Richie Moloney, were presented the Simba Run Perpetual Trophy as the owner of the Show Jumper who earned the most prize money during the 2016 Winter Equestrian Festival.
