SHOW JUMPING - ALLEN WINS ANOTHER BELGIAN JUNIOR GRAND PRIX

IRELAND'S pony and Junior riders had a successful weekend at Neeroeteren in Belgium, with 17 year-old Bertram Allen from Wexford winning today's (Sunday) Junior Grand Prix with a double clear round on Ajaccio, while his younger sister Grace also featured strongly in the weekend prize money, with a fourth place in the Pony Grand Prix on Cassandra van het Roelhof, a win in the jump-off class and several other top ten places.

Bertram added his Neeroeteren Grand Prix trophy to a similar one gained at Moorsele in Belgium just last month.

Galway's 16 year-old Michael Duffy was also in the ribbons this weekend in both the pony and junior classes at Neeroeteren.

Meanwhile in senior show jumping, 42 year-old Kildare rider Niall Talbot scored a fifth place in the two-star Grand Prix in La Mandria, Italy today, riding Nicos de la Cense, and losing out by just under one-and-a-half seconds to Italian winner Roberto Arioldi and Viper in a 16 horse jump-off.

Kilkenny's Marion Hughes secured a fifth place in the Grand Prix at Abu Dhabi on Friday night with the Irish Sport Horse HHS Pinky, and on Saturday racked up a win on the same horse.

Competing at the two-star level of the UAE competitions, Hughes had a single rail down in the first round of a tough Grand Prix clash that saw only two double clear rounds, with the winner's laurels eventually claimed by local rider Nadia Taryam Abdul Aziz and Calawo.

In the five-star section of the Abu Dhabi event, Tipperary's Denis Lynch was unlucky not to qualify for the jump-off in Saturday night's Global Champions Tour Grand Prix with All Star 5, collecting four faults in the first round, but earlier in the day had a third place with Night Train in the speed class and a second place on the same horse in the show's opening two phase competition.
