Show Jumping - Breen Racks up First Irish Win of the Weekend

TIPPERARY'S Shane Breen has racked up Ireland's first show jumping win of the weekend, when finishing first at three-star Lummen, Belgium on the stallion Balloon Friday.

Picking up almost 6,000 euro for his victory, the 38 year-old was one of a large jump-off of 26 combinations, and came home with just over half a second in hand over Belgian runner-up Rik Hemeryck and Papillon Z.

Also in the prize money was Limerick's Joan Greene with the mare Biscaya d'Eversem, collecting 1,300 euro for a sixth place.

At Paris's five-star show, meanwhile, 17 year old Bertram Allen from Wexford claimed second place in the Under-25 Two Phase class aboard the grey mare Molly Malone V, with Alex Duffy placing seventh on the gelding Living The Dream. First place at the French show was taken by Britain's Louise Saywell and the mare Winner.

Irish riders are also competing this weekend at Arezzo in Italy, Omaha in the USA, Linz, Austria, and Gorla Minore in Italy.
