SHOW JUMPING - CAREY MAKES IT TWO IN A ROW
WITH SECOND WIN IN AUSTRIA TODAY

IRELAND'S Shane Carey delivered two consecutive wins at the three-star show in Villach, Austria on Saturday, collecting a total of 9,500 in prize money, while in Dubai Cian O'Connor took sixth place in the World Cup Grand Prix.

The Limerick rider's first victory came this morning in the 1m40 class, when he piloted the 11 year-old grey mare Spice Girl into first place to earn 2,000 euro.

Carey, who turned 35 earlier this week, picked up the balance of his prize haul this evening with a narrow win on the grey gelding Ballymore Eustace in the 1m50 Grand Prix Qualifier, pipping Swiss rider Paul Estermann and the Irish Sport Horse Castlefield Eclipse to the post by a fifth of a second in a 17 horse jump-off.

Derry's Trevor Coyle placed seventh in the same class with the bay mare Carlina, and also followed Carey into the prize money in this morning's competition, taking a fifth aboard the chestnut mare Classica LS.

Later today, Olympic bronze medallist O'Connor was one of two Irish riders in the top ten of the World Cup Grand Prix at Dubai, finishing sixth on the 12 year-old Unique when the combination had a single rail down in the nine horse jump-off. Kilkenny-born Marion Hughes placed equal tenth with the Irish Sport Horse Heritage HHS Fortuna, who won the Grand Prix Qualifier for her on Friday at the United Arab Emirates venue, but had four faults in today's first round.

O'Connor took third place in Friday's qualifier with Unique, while 18 year-old Galway rider Michael Duffy finished in fifth on O'Connell Street.

Today's Grand Prix was won by H.H. Latifah Al Maktoum from the United Arab Emirates, riding Peanuts de Beaufour to victory with a double clear round.

In Wellington, Florida, meanwhile, the fourth round of the Winter Equestrian Festival saw Co. Down's Conor Swail finish as runner-up with the stallion Lansdowne in Thursday night's jump-off, with Offaly-born Darragh Kenny placing fourth with Oreade des Dames.
