SHOW JUMPING - LYNCH TOPS UP PRIZE POT AT MECHELEN

AHEAD of Sunday's World Cup class at Mechelen's five-star show in Belgium, Ireland's Denis Lynch added a further 7,500 euro to his winnings tonight (Friday) with a third place in the Grand Prix aboard Thomas Straumann's bay stallion All Star 5.

The Tipperary rider came agonisingly close to putting himself in contention for the 12,500 euro first prize, losing out by just under two seconds in the jump off to France's Simon Delestre and the French-bred stallion Qlassic Bois Margot. Second place went to Belgium's Jerome Guery, riding the grey gelding Upper Star, who clipped less than a second off the Irishman's time.

Lynch and the bay gelding Twister S also collected 1125 euro for a third place in Thursday's competition against the clock.
