Show Jumping - Splaine Confirms Squad for Vital Aachen Nations' Cup

WITH just two point-scoring chances left for Ireland in the top level Furusiyya Nations Cup series for 2013, Show Jumping Team Manager Robert Splaine today (Thursday) announced his squad of five to compete at Aachen, Germany next week.

With just August's Aga Khan Trophy competition at Dublin Horse Show still to follow as one of Ireland's chosen four Furusiyya qualifiers, the competition at Aachen will be vital for the country's overall tally in Europe Division 1 ahead of September's Final in Barcelona.

Splaine's squad for next Thursday night's (June 27) clash at Aachen, where eight teams will compete is, in alphabetical order:

Shane Breen/Balloon or Cos I Can (ISH).

Shane Carey/Ballymore Eustace.

Dermott Lennon/Loughview Lou Lou (ISH)

Cian O'Connor/Cooper or Carpe Diem

Billy Twomey/Tinka's Serenade or Diaghilev

From the squad of five, Splaine will choose a team of four riders and horses for the Nations' Cup, in which a total of eight teams will participate.

Ireland currently lie third in the Furusiyya Europe Division 1 standings on 150.67 points, with Switzerland in the lead on 180 and France second on 157.67.
