SHOW JUMPING - TWO IRISH WINS AT WEEKEND'S INTERNATIONAL SHOWS

IRISH riders have chalked up two wins in the last 24 hours at this weekend's international shows, with Limerick's Shane Carey tasting victory today (Saturday) in Austria, and Kilkenny-born Marion Hughes taking the honours at Dubai on Friday.

Hughes's win came in the searing heat of the United Arab Emirates yesterday evening, where she steered the Irish Sport Horse Heritage HHS Fortuna though a starting field of 66 to claim the Grand Prix Qualifier trophy with over a second in hand against Syrian challenger Ahmed Hancho and Quintus.

Ireland's Olympic bronze medallist Cian O'Connor took third place in the same competition with Unique, while 18 year-old Galway rider Michael Duffy finished in fifth on O'Connell Street.

At Villach in Austria this morning, Shane Carey collected 2,000 euro for a first place in the three-star show with the 11 year-old Spice Girl, with Derry's Trevor Coyle took fifth aboard the chestnut mare Classica LS.

In Wellington, Florida, meanwhile, the fourth round of the Winter Equestrian Festival saw Co. Down's Conor Swail finish as runner-up with the stallion Lansdowne in Thursday night's jump-off, with Offaly-born Darragh Kenny placing fourth with Oreade des Dames.
