SPLAINE NAMES ROME SQUAD FOR SUPERLEAGUE CLASH

DERMOTT Lennon, Cian O’Connor, Shane Sweetnam, Niall Talbot and Billy Twomey make up the squad selected by Team Ireland show jumping manager Robert Splaine for the second leg of the 2012 FEI Superleague Nations' Cup series in Rome, Italy on May 25.

From these, Splaine will select a team of four to do battle with the world's seven other top nations at the Piazza di Sienna in Friday afternoon's two-round competition.

The 2012 squad, in alphabetical order, is:

Dermott Lennon/Loughview Lou-Lou (ISH)
Cian O’Connor/Blue Loyd 12
Shane Sweetnam/Amaretto Darco
Niall Talbot/Nicos De La Cense 
Billy Twomey/Tinka’s Serenade

Ireland currently lies in equal fifth position in the Superleague on three points, with Belgium leading on ten points after the opening leg of the series at La Baule in France earlier this month.

The series will continue with St Gallen (SUI), 31 May-2 June, followed by Rotterdam (NED) 20-24 June; Aachen (GER) 3-8 July; Falsterbo (SWE) 12-15 July; Hickstead (GBR) 19-22 July; Dublin (IRL) 15-19 August.
