TWOMEY ADDS TO PRIZE MONEY AT DOHA
CORK'S Billy Twomey was once again in the prize money at Doha in the United Arab Emirates when he took a seventh place this afternoon (Saturday) in the 1m50 speed class with his own 14 year-old stallion Romanov.
France's in-form Roger Yves Bost was today's winner, aboard Jessica Kurten's former ride, Castle Forbes Cosma.
Twomey, who will be celebrating his 35th birthday next week, also took a fourth place with Romanov in the Global Champions Tour show in its opening competition on Thursday, and followed this later in the day with a fifth place on the mare Tinka's Serenade.
The Cork rider's total prize money at the five-star show has totalled 6,700 euro so far this weekend, but he will be hoping for a larger slice of the action in this evening's Global Champions Tour Grand Prix, where 450,000 euro is on offer.
Drawn 40th of 43 riders in the Grand Prix, Twomey will again line out with Tinka's Serenade, while fellow Irish rider Denis Lynch, with Thomas Straumann's gelding Lantinus, will jump in 42nd position.
