Horse Trainer Charged with Theft Avoids Jail
Kelsey Lefever, 24, an experienced horse trainer in Pennsylvania who specialized in retraining off-track Thoroughbreds for new careers, was charged with theft and fraud after she sold horses she had been given to rehome.
She had promised horse-owners she would not sell their animals for slaughter, then turned around and sold the animals at New Holland auction which is well-known as a source of animals for the horse-meat industry.
She had been reported as bragging to an acquaintance that she had done this over 120 times.
She has avoided jail time in a deal with prosecutors which bars her from working with horses for two years and allows her to attend a program for first-time offenders.
