Illegal Horse Racing In California: Drugs Alleged
KCRA.com in Sacramento, California, is reporting that authorities are investigating frequent illegal horse races in the central valley.
Several small towns have tracks where the races are held. Large amounts of money are bet, while drugs, alcohol and prostitution are also present.
In addition, there are reports that the horses are drugged with cocaine and amphetamines to make them run faster.
There was no information on who owns the horses or who organizes the races. There is an ongoing investigation by the California Department of Justice
Reports of illegal horse racing are not new in California; an investigation in 2008 resulted in misdemeanor charges for a number of men.
