Iris Kellett, aged 85, passed away on Friday.  She not only broke ground in international show jumping competition, but she also established an equestrian training and instruction legacy for Ireland.

Kellett's competitive career began in the 1940s when the sport was still dominated by military training and male riders.  She won major classes from the Dublin Grand Prix and the Princess Elizabeth Cup to the Ladies European Championship (when women had separate championships).

She trained future Irish show jumping stars such as Eddie Macken and Paul Darragh and established a major national training center.
