Los Angeles native Jess Jackson, owner of two-time Horse of the Year Curlin and 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, has died at age 81 due to complications from cancer.

Curlin was the 2007 Preakness Stakes winner and captured the Horse of the Year award in 2007 and 2008. In 2009, Rachel Alexandra became the first filly in 85 years to win the Preakness on her way to becoming Horse of the Year.
