The jockey of 137th Kentucky Derby contender Nehro was found dead in his car late Tuesday afternoon. Michael Baze, 24, rode the colt in the "Race for the Roses" this past Saturday to a second place finish.
Local police investigating Baze's death do not believe any foul play was involved. An autopsy and toxicology tests are planned to determine Baze's cause of death.
Churchill Downs spokesman John Asher called the jockey's death “a tremendous and unthinkable loss.”
Barnmice sends our deepest condolences to Mr. Baze's family and loved ones in this difficult time.
