John Quirk, Equestrian Journalist, has Died

John Quirk, who along with his wife, noted equestrian photographer Tish, published, edited and wrote much of the popular West coast "Horses" Magazine, died yesterday.  Mr. Quirk was also known as a novelist  with several titles topping the best-selling list.

Mr. Quirk was one of the prime movers in bringing the World Cup first to Del Mar in 1992 then later to Las Vegas between 2000 and 2009.  This was a rare opportunity for horse sport enthusiasts in the U.S. to see top international show jumping and dressage riders and horses in person.

Mr. Quirk was one of the early U.S. innovators in sport horse breeding.  He and his wife imported top breeding horses including the Dutch Warmblood stallion Octrooi, also known as Best of Luck.  Best of Luck was sired by Lucky Boy, one of the top sires of show jumping horses.  Mrs. Quirk still stands two sons of Best of Luck, Just the Best and More than Luck.

The Barnmice community extends condolences to Tish Quirk, family and friends.
