Canadian Show Jumping Team Announced for European Tour

Ottawa, ON — Yann Candele, Tiffany Foster, Jill Henselwood and Ian Millar will represent the Canadian Show Jumping Team at CSIO 4* Lummen, BEL, from May 2–6, 2012 and at CSIO 4* Linz, AUT, from May 10–13, 2012.

The European tour is made possible through Sport Canada’s Own the Podium program, a national sport technical initiative designed to help Canada’s summer and winter athletes achieve podium success at the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Yann Candele, 41, of Caledon, ON, has declared two horses.  They are Carlotta Singular la Magnifica, a 12-year-old Hanoverian Warmblood mare, and Game Ready, a 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding, both owned by Susan Grange.

Tiffany Foster, 27, of Schomberg, ON, declared two horses—Victor, a 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Torrey Pines Stable and Artisan Farms LLC, and Southwind VDL, a 13-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Foster and Artisan Farms LLC.

As her mount for the European tour, 2008 Olympic team silver medalist Jill Henselwood, 49, of Oxford Mills, ON, has declared George, a 10-year-old Hanoverian gelding owned by Brian Gingras.

Nine-time Canadian Olympian Ian Millar, 65, of Perth, ON, has declared Star Power, Team Works’ nine-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding.

“We are looking forward to these two important CSIO events,” said Jump Canada chef d’équipe, Terrence Millar. “We think we have a good group of horses and riders to represent us. This is all part of the selection process in trying to put together the best team for London this summer.”

A Nations’ Cup is the only competition in show jumping where riders, in teams of four, compete as a country.  The top three scores from each team are counted towards the final result of the two-round competition.

There are only two Nations’ Cup events held annually in North America.  The $350,000 BMO Nations’ Cup at the Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ Tournament in September and the $75,000 FEI Nations’ Cup at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL, in March.

Additional details about the two competitions may be found for CSIO 4* Lummen, BEL at www.jumpinglummen.be and www.linzerpferdefestival.at for CSIO 4* Linz, AUT.
