Eric Lamaze Named CAVALOR 'Athlete of the Month' for April
Eric Lamaze was named the CAVALOR 'Athlete of the Month' for April by Jump Canada.
Reigning Olympic champions Lamaze of Schomberg, ON, and Hickstead finished second in the 2011 Rolex FEI World Cup Final held April 27 to May 1 in Leipzig, Germany. Despite an illustrious international career, 2011 marked the first time that Hickstead represented Canada in the annual Rolex FEI World Cup Final.
Sitting in 17th place following the opening speed phase, Lamaze and Hickstead won the second phase of competition to move into fifth place overall in the standings. Scores of zero and four faults in the third and final phase placed Lamaze and Hickstead second overall behind Germany’s Christian Ahlmann riding Taloubet Z.
“I didn’t arrive at the World Cup Final expecting to win; it was only Hickstead’s second show of the European season so it was early for him to peak but, with his experience, he was able to do it,” said Lamaze of the 15-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion he co-owns with Ashland Stables. “I know my horse; he fights and he knows when it is important. That is when he’s at his best, when the jumps are high and the competition is tough. He gives you everything.”
As the CAVALOR 'Athlete of the Month' for March, Eric receives a gift certificate from title sponsor CAVALOR Inc.
“It is great that CAVALOR sponsors the ‘Athlete of the Month,’ to highlight the achievements of our Canadian riders,” said Lamaze, who feeds CAVALOR exclusively to Hickstead.
