Yann Candele Repeats Canadian Show Jumping Championship
Title for Third Time

 

 

Ottawa, Ontario-Yann Candele of Caledon, ON, made history by claiming the 2012 Canadian Show Jumping Championship, presented by Greenhawk, on November 3 at The Royal Horse Show in Toronto, ON. Candele has become the first rider to win the prestigious title three years in a row.

 

The Canadian Show Jumping Championship, presented by Greenhawk, opened the 10-day Royal Horse Show on Friday evening with a $25,000 speed phase, and riders carried their scores forward to Saturday's two-round final. After posting the fastest performance on Friday night, despite adding time penalties for a rail on course,Candele and Game Ready, Susan Grange's 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding,maintained their lead with two clear rounds. Candele and Game Ready captured theCanadian Show Jumping Championship title with a perfect score of zero faults.

 

"The Canadian Championship was for me to lose," said Candele who won the national title in 2010 riding Pitareusa, also owned by Susan Grange, and in 2011 with Game Ready. "I am happy to win this title for myself and for my owner Susan Grange. I am very pleased to win this title three years in a row among such an elite group of horses and riders. "

 

Second place went to Ian Millar of Perth, ON, riding Star Power, an 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Team Works, who also had three fault-free rounds, and finished on his Friday score of two faults.

 

Isabelle Lapierre of Breakeyville, QC, rode Ecuries de la Chaudiere's 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare, Vicki Vale, to third spot with a score of three faults and three clear rounds. Ainsley Vince of Burlington, ON, and Frieda, an 11-year-old German Warmblood mare owned by KMA Group, and Jill Henselwood of Oxford Mills, ON, and George, a 10-year-old Hanoverian gelding owned by B Gingras Equestrian Limited, tied for fourth place, both with an overall total score of four faults. Rounding out the top five was Neil Badcock of King City, ON, and Campino, a 15-year-old Westphalian gelding, with 11 faults.

 

As the top two finishers in the Canadian Championship not already qualified based on their world ranking, Isabelle Lapierre and Neil Badcock have moved forward to the international division of The Royal Horse Show which opens on Tuesday, November 6. They join fellow Canadians Ian Millar, Yann Candele, Jill Henselwood, Mac Cone, Angela Covert-Lawrence and Ainsley Vince.
