Registration Now Open for Kentucky Horse Council’s
Livestock Investigation Training

Lexington, KY – The Livestock Investigation Training is back this summer and will be held from July 31st to August 2nd at Morehead State University. Registration is now open to all county and state officials, such as Animal Control Officers, Sheriffs, and Police Officers.

Developed by the Kentucky Horse Council (KHC) in partnership with the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association (KCA) with input from experienced enforcement officers, veterinarians, and livestock producers, this three day course is tailored to the needs of the Commonwealth.

This summer’s training is a Level I training, where attendees will learn how to handle horses and cattle, assess body condition score in both species, identify situations that need intervention, and apply Kentucky statutes to animal cases. Attendees also practice handling and evaluating live horses and cattle as well as examining Kentucky statutes and enforcement procedures.

“The Kentucky Horse Council’s mission statement states that our organization, through education and leadership, is dedicated to the protection and development of the Kentucky equine community,” explained Anna Zinkhon, KHC Board President. “By teaching peace officers how to handle livestock and assess their condition, as well as how to investigate and build a case, we are fulfilling that mission. We believe it’s important to look out for the welfare of Kentucky’s livestock.”

The Level I Livestock Investigation Training is sponsored in part by Kentucky Animal Care & Control Association, Kentucky Association of Counties, Kentucky Beef Council, Kentucky Beef Network, Kentucky Cattlemen's Association, Kentucky Livestock Coalition, and Kentucky Pork Producers Association.

Livestock Investigation Training is endorsed by the Kentucky Animal Control Advisory Board. Peace Officers attending the training are eligible for Continuing Education Units through the Department of Criminal Justice Training.

Cost to attend the three day training is $100 per officer. Out of state officials may attend at $250 per officer. Limited scholarships for tuition are available.
