LEGIS Gold Coast Series Winners

The spooks and goblins will soon be afoot, and LEGISequine got into the spirit a few days early by celebrating the LEGIS Gold Coast Series winners at Gold Coast 7 (Oct 18-21). The LEGIS team got into the Halloween spirit, offering free candy, LEGIS gear, and games like Pin the Face on the Pumpkin. Series champions and reserve champions signed a commemorative LEGIS T-shirt when they picked up their prizes, and it will be displayed on the Wall of Fame in the LEGIS office.

Here are just a few of the great riders who performed well throughout the season and finished the series at the top of the standings.

Dorothy Rose Kauffman-Skloff on Carmello, Rosmel's Millenium, and Truly Noble

Dorothy Rose Kauffman-Skloff (Ginny Plancke, trainer) was very busy at the five Gold Coast shows she attended, and as a result she rode three ponies to series championships. She was champion in the Small/Medium Pony Hunters on Rosmel’s Millennium (Robin Greenwood – GC Ponies, owner) and reserve champion on Truly Noble (Pegasus Show Stable, Inc., owner).She was also series reserve champion on her Carmello in the Large Pony Hunters.Even at just 13 years old, Dorothy has several years of riding experience under her belt. “My mom used to give me pony rides when I was two years old, and I started really riding when I was four,” she explained.

Stacey Bacheller and Otto Rocket

Stacey Bacheller (Jeni Brown, trainer) had a great Gold Coast Series, winning champion in the Children’s Jumpers with Otto Rocket (Jeni Brown, owner). “Otto Rocket is my trainer’s horse that she bred as a baby, so I’ve known him since he was about one year old.It’s been really great to see him grow up and mature and become competitive,” Stacey commented.This is Stacey’s last year competing as a junior, and she is currently a senior at Lorena High School.Stacey finished up the Gold Coast Series with a win in the $2,500 LEG Anniversary Gold Coast Series Stake with Odyssey (Meredith Riekse, owner).

Lorraine Rowe on Latest Release

Lorraine Rowe (Candice Stormes, trainer) and her Latest Release were series champion in the Low Children's-Adult Amateur Jumpers. Lorraine is a quadruplet and her two sisters, Hannah and Sophie, also attend the Gold Coast shows with her.At Gold Coast 7, Lorraine and Latest Release were reserve champion in the Children’s Jumpers and placed fourth in the $500 Children’s-Adult Amateur Jumper Classic.

Emily Goldberg with Hear Me Out and Winning Ticket

Emily Goldberg (Randy Cano, trainer) was another busy rider at Gold Coast, regularly riding her three horses at all seven of the shows in the series. “I really enjoyed showing all of my horses and particularly competing in the hunters,” Emily said. The senior at La Reina High School was series champion in the Children’s Pony Hunters on her Hear Me Out and reserve champion in Children’s Hunters, 17 & Under on her Winning Ticket. Emily noted, “I’m the first junior to show Winning Ticket, and we are looking forward to doing the junior hunters next season.”


Tommi Clark has an exemplary year

Tommi Clarke on Exupery, Exemplar, and Chosen

Tommi Clarke, the head trainer at Griffith Park Farms, has had an exemplary year, winning multiple Gold Coast Series championships in the hunters as well as other top honors on Exemplar (Stephen Borders, owner), Exupery (Stephen Borders, owner), and her Chosen. Recently, Tommi and Exupery (AKA Super) won Grand Champion Hunter at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show. Tommi enumerated, “It was beyond anything I could have ever dreamed of to win in Pennsylvania.Super is truly a special horse, and these are memories I will never forget.” At Gold Coast 7, Tommi and Exemplar were show champions in the 3' Pre-green Hunters.

When asked about her favorite memory from the Gold Coast Series, Tommi responded, “I was so proud watching one of our kids go from walk trot to the 0.95M Jumpers and our four-year-old lead liner moving up to walk-trot for the first time.Seeing them succeed at these new levels is very rewarding.”


Anything goes for Courtney Harrell

Courtney Harrell on Anything Goes

Courtney Harrell (Edmonton Farms, trainer) and her horse, Anything Goes, attended five Gold Coast shows this year, but one in particular stood out for Courtney.“This has been an incredible season and I have so many wonderful memories, but Gold Coast 6 has to be my favorite,” Courtney said. “For Anything Goes to win the LAHJA Horsemanship Medal Finals with me and then turn around and win the $1,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby with Sheri Moser made it the horse show of a lifetime!”Courtney and Anything goes were series champion in the Adult Amateur Hunters, 18 & Over and series champion in ‘B’ Equitation, 18 & Over.



Kayla Lott on Nick Nack


Kayla Lott brings it in the Children's Hunters and Equitation 12-14

Kayla Lott (Elvenstar Farms, trainer) earned her first “A” Gold Coast Series championships this season and was series champion in the Children’s Hunters, 17 & Under and in the Equitation, 12 thru 14 on Nick Nack (Amy Klebesadel, owner).“Nick Nack is a former jumper, and this year he has shown successfully in the hunters and equitation.We are so proud of him,” Kayla commented.The pair also won the LAHJA Rosewood Medal Finals at Gold Coast 6.“That was definitely my favorite memory all season,” Kayla said. “I still can’t believe that I won."

Noah Cyrus on Hollywood’s Blue Comet

Noah Cyrus (Kost Karazissis, trainer) and her Hollywood’s Blue Comet made an impression in the ponies and won series champion in the Pony Equitation and Large Pony Hunters.At Gold Coast 7, Noah won champion in the Large Pony Hunters on Hollywood’s Blue Comet and also won the LAHJA Horsmanship Medal Class and placed second in the Onondarka Medal Class on Constantine Carolus (Amber Hunsicker, owner).


Susan Azad makes sweet music with Thalassa and Mozart Z

Susan Azad on Thalassa and Mozart Z

Susan Azad (Heidi Misrahy, trainer) captured multiple series championships on her Thalassa and Mozart Z, including series champion in the Modified Junior-Amateur Jumpers and Adult Amateur Jumpers on Thalassa and reserve champion in the Low Children’s-Adult Amateur Jumpers on Mozart Z. “Thalassa has been the most amazing teacher in allowing me to move up. She loves to jump and can turn on a dime,” Susan noted. “I hope to eventually do the Junior- Amateur Owner Jumpers because she has been so patient and kind.”Susan attended all of the Gold Coast shows and commented, “The whole series is really fun and very competitive, yet really welcoming. I think it’s a terrific series because it gives a lot of riders the ability to compete in a top notch show and all of the shows are run really smoothly.”
