McLain Ward Injured in a Fall at FTI Winter Equestrian Festival

McLain Ward, two time Olympic Show Jumping Team Gold medal winner, has broken his leg in a fall at the FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival.

He was riding Oh d'Eole in the $30,000 Surpass Grand Prix on Saturday evening when he suffered the fall.  Ward was taken to a nearby hospital where he was to undergo surgery.

Ward was planning to participate in the upcoming USEF Olympic trials during the Winter Equestrian Festival.   Sapphire, his mount for both the 2004 and 2008 Olympics, has recently returned to work following an injury.  Ward was hoping to prepare her for the trials and that plan will obviously have to be put on hold now while Ward recovers from surgery.
