Men Accused of Dragging Shetland Pony Behind Car Appear in Australian Court

Source:  Various

The men accused of dragging a Shetland pony behind  their car on Christmas day have appeared in court near Brisbane today.

They have been charged with animal cruelty.  One of the men is aged 17 and the other is 33 years old.

The pony, who suffered severe injuries to his hooves, legs and chest, managed to survive his many wounds.  Veterinarians considered euthanasia for the animal since his injuries were so extensive.

At the RSPCA shelter where he has been recuperating, the pony has been named "Elf" and he will eventually be moved to foster care with an organization for disadvantaged youth.
