NRHA Sire & Dam Program Updates

Oklahoma City, Okla. –  The National Reining Horse Association’s (NRHA) Sire & Dam Program is gearing up for  what looks to be an exciting year. 2014 breedings will be made available to mare owners via a first come, first served listing and its online auction featuring a top 20 line up of reining super stallions. This year’s Top 20 Sires will include the likes of Walla Walla Whiz, Einsteins Revolution, Smart Like Juice, Magnum Chic Dream, and Jerry Lees Surprise.

The program will offer breedings on a first come first served basis starting on October 2. Mare owners can purchase these breedings as long as they are available and reap Sire & dam Program benefits in the future.

Starting this year, the Sire & Dam Online Auction will end earlier on December 31 to allow staff to process auction results and notify the winning bidder sooner. The auction will run from November 15 and close December 31 at noon CTS. Anxious bidders can visit www.reiningauction.com to see breedings as they are added to the list.

Another change is set to begin with the 2014 program year (breeding year): To be eligible to enter the NRHA Futurity and Derby foals must be nominated to the NRHA Nomination Program. The fee for nominating a weanling is $300. After the creation of the NRHA Nomination Program in 2008, offspring resulting from a Sire & Dam breeding were granted eligibility for the NRHA Futurity and Derby. However, they could not earn nominator incentives unless they were nominated. Since that time, there has been much confusion about this process resulting in mare owners missing out on a portion of $150,000 in nominator incentives awarded each year. With this decision, NRHA aims to eliminate confusion and strengthen payout to owners and nominators, in addition to creating longevity and sustainability for these events.  More information on the NRHA Nomination Program can be found at www.nrha.com.

More about the Sire & Dam Program
Created in 1966, the NRHA Sire & Dam Program continues to provide significant benefits to both stallion and mare owners. Stallions who participate in the program are eligible for NRHA Futurity and Derby awards, while mare owners have the opportunity to purchase breedings to the top stallions in the industry at reduced rates. Sire & Dam offspring are eligible for reduced entry fees for the NRHA Futurity and Derby, a savings of over $4,000 as well as later entry deadlines for both events.

If you are interested in participating in the program or would like to learn more about it please contact Hayley Lewallen at hlewallen@nrha.com or (405) 946-7400.
