A horse in Marion County, Oregon, was shot dead in pasture on Monday evening.  The pasture is near the town of Silverton, which is east of Salem.

 

Neighbors reported hearing a single gunshot at a little past 6PM.  The sheriff's office sent an officer to investigate.

 

The horse, a 23-year-old Arabian mare, was discovered wounded in the pasture and she died shortly thereafter.

 

The sheriff's office is investigating and any information should be reported to the department at (503) 588-5032.  Anonymous tips can be passed on by calling (503) 540-8079.  

 

The crime, aggravated animal abuse, is a felony.
