HARRISBURG, PA - The Pennsylvania National Horse Show received the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) Heritage Competition award in a special ceremony at this year's event.

In its 71st year, the Pennsylvania National Horse Show has been a year-end tradition for riders across the country with over 1,400 qualified horses competing for over $500,000 in prize money including the $100,000 Grand Prix de Penn National. Proceeds from the show benefit the community youth and equine programs.

The USEF Heritage Competition award is reserved for select competitions that have been in existence for over 50 years, have promoted and developed the equestrian sport, and have made substantial contributions to support charitable programs in their community. Out of the 2,500 USEF recognized events, only 22 competitions have been awarded this prestigious award.

"Management at PNHS is to be applauded for continually improving the facility and level of competitions," said Chrystine Tauber, USEF President. "For the past five years the Penn National has been on the North American Riders Group list of the Top 25 Shows in North America."

The Pennsylvania National Horse Show was first held in 1946 and throughout the years it has maintained its renowned international status. The show offered the Nations Cup competition until 1973, the World Cup Qualifier from 1981 to 2014, and is currently a FEI 3* event.

Since 1946, Pennsylvania National has supported numerous community organizations and has provided youth programs in Central Pennsylvania with over $1.68 million dollars. The event has also been working with the Kiwanis Club of Harrisburg since 1946, a global organization of volunteers who dedicate their time to help the community.

"We are honored to be given this special award," said Susie Webb, Executive Director of Pennsylvania National. "We all work hard each year to make the Pennsylvania National the best show it can be and this award is a tribute to the many people who have worked so hard over the last seven decades."

In 1999, The Pennsylvania National Horse Show Foundation was created to support equestrian projects and programs that focus on education and training. This year, the show added the Inaugural Therapeutic Riding Championship and Therapy Horse of the Year awards.
