2013 Road to the Horse AQHA Remuda from the Legendary 6666 Ranch Released

Legendary Quarter Horses are a hallmark of “The Four Sixes” Ranch. A recipient of the AQHA Best Remuda Award and an AQHA All-Time Leading Breeder of Performance Horses, 6666 Ranch stands some of the most well respected Quarter Horse stallions in the industry. It is only fitting, that such legendary horses should be selected for one of the equine industries most prized championships, the World Championship of Colt Starting.

Each year a notable Quarter Horse ranch is invited to provide ten three-year-old geldings for the World Championship of Colt Starting. Working hand-in-hand with the American Quarter Horse Association, Road to the Horse owner and producer Tootie Bland and Boss Wrangler Adam Tarpley carefully consider each ranch’s breeding program and husbandry record before making a final selection.

For the third consecutive year, the AQHA Remuda from 6666 Ranch will be the star attraction at Road to the Horse 2013, as the event approaches its tenth anniversary, and also makes the move from Murfreesboro, TN to the Alltech Arena in Lexington, KY to accommodate sell-out crowds.

The 6666’s initiated their Quarter Horse breeding program in the 1960’s, carefully breeding for cow sense, speed, gentle disposition and confirmation. Even with one of the strongest stallion line-ups in the equine industry, 6666’s ranch claims that much of their success rests squarely with a band of over 100 top-notch broodmares.  Matching proven maternal genetics with the industry's leading cutting, reining, ranch and all-around performance producers, 6666 Ranch has created a fail-proof system for success.

6666’s keep many of their foals for later use on the ranch or in the breeding program. The geldings selected for Road to the Horse 2013, come from a group of horses chosen to remain at the 6666’s with the eligibility of being included in the cowboy string. Helping manage the Black Angus cow/calf operation that includes 7,000 mother cows, the cowboy string is an integral part of 6666 Ranch.

“On the male side of production, we selected a few stallion prospects and then picked the ranch remuda horses. These geldings are not from one particular sire line, but are a good mixture of performance breeding. For Road to the Horse we picked the best representation and cross section of 6666’s raised horses,” says 6666’s Ranch resident veterinarian and AQHA executive committee member, Glenn Blodgett, DVM.

The AQHA Remuda horses have been released on the Road to the Horse website, and the sires from the 6666 Ranch include:

The 2013 AQHA Remuda from the 6666 Ranch will have something very special to offer Road to the Horse fans with the introduction of the new Wildcard Competition. At the 2013 event, 10 hand selected and pre-approved horsemen and horsewomen will have the opportunity to select a colt from the AQHA Remuda from the 6666 Ranch, which they will then take home and train all year. These colts will then return with their trainers to compete at Road to the Horse 2014, for the award of ‘Best Hand’.

The winner of the ‘Best Hand’ competition will then immediately step into the round pen to compete for the 2014 World Championship of Colt Starting title, alongside other invited international clinicians. Road to the Horse fans will have the ability to follow the progress of all the colts in the 2013 AQHA Remuda from the 6666 Ranch, as they prepare for their showdown at Road to the Horse 2014 on www.roadtothehorse.com.
