Lexington Students to Sample Careers in Bluegrass Horse Industry

Lexington, KY--About 150 students in the Summer Youth Employment Program in Lexington will get to observe the unique and varied careers associated with Kentucky's horse industry this summer, thanks to a public-private partnership.

Partners for Youth and Equestrian Events, Inc., organizer of the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, will sponsor Equine Career Days for the students on July 10 and July 17 at the Kentucky Horse Park.

Half of the students will attend on July 10 from 1-3:30 p.m. and half on July 17 from 1-3:30 p.m.

The students will learn how horses are trained and cared for and visit the Hall of Champions, the Big Barn and Horses of the World at the horse park.

EEI made Lexington-based Partners for Youth the official charity of the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event because it was an opportunity to support the local community as well as the equine industry.

"Giving these kids a hands-on introduction to this industry may inspire them to become our future Eventing competitors, trainers, farm managers, grooms or simply life-time equestrian fans. That's good for the entire industry," said Lee Carter, Executive Director of Equestrian Events, Inc. "And our RK3DE fans and supporters, especially those who participated in the bag-check fundraiser during the event, are who made this partnership possible."

The Summer Youth Employment Program is sponsored by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government.  This year is it has helped 225 Lexington youth find summer jobs.

Partners for Youth is a quasi-government organization that helps identify and financially support meaningful activities for young people through public-private funds for a number of grassroots organizations.

Equestrian Events, Inc.  is a non-profit charitable Kentucky organization that was established initially to produce the 1978 World Three-Day Event Championships at the Kentucky Horse Park.  EEI established an annual event, which quickly evolved into what is today the only Four Star three-day event in the Western Hemisphere - the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event.
