Shackleford put an end to Triple Crown speculation with a 3/4 length win over Kentucky Derby winner  Animal Kingdom in the Preakness.

The race was run at a relatively fast pace early on.  Dale Romans, Shackleford's trainer, said Shackleford had a high cruising speed, so the fast early pace did not bother him.

Graham Motion, trainer of Animal Kingdom, said the horse ran a huge race and just ran out of room to close on Shackleford at the wire.
