Sons of the Wind Concludes Midwest Tour at Minnesota Horse Expo This Weekend
Merrimac, MA - The Sons of the Wind School of Equestrian Arts' 2013 Midwest Tour will be making their final stop this weekend. After finishing events at Cornell University, Equine Affaire Ohio, and the Midwst Horse Fair, Sons of the Wins is now preparing for their last event during the Minnesota Horse Expo from April 26-28. During this stop, Sons of the Wind will be teaching clinics focused on different training techniques that can help improve a horses' dressage performance.
One of the clinics conducted by Sons of the Wind will focus on long-lining. Vitor Silva will concentrate on when to use it during the training progression of a horse, which is unique depending on the horse's discipline. They will also discuss developing the strength of a performance horse through the Pendulum of Elasticity. This clinic will include recommendations on how to ride and train horses through specific exercises as well as common mistakes and evasive behaviors of the horse.
There will also be a clinic about how to do lateral work. Sons of the Wind will focus on testing the riders' aides and reinforcing the basics. They will also be observing common mistakes and evasive behaviors during the training of lateral work at all three gaits, while discussing how to work through these problems.
The next clinic will discuss tempi changes: from recognizing when to start the progression to common mistakes, and then the solutions through training exercises. The final clinic will focus on when and why to introduce the piaffe/passage progression into your training. They will discuss how to recognize whether to start with piaffe or passage training first. This clinic will also include common problems in training and techniques to solve those problems.
In addition to the clinics, Sons of the Wind will be performing a Quadrille and athletic movements including Airs Above the Ground for those in attendance. The Lusitano was best known for its amazing athleticism as a loyal war horse, and then as a brave, bold mount in the bullring. Today, the modern Lusitano has found its way in to many disciplines including dressage. During the tour, Sons of the Wind will teach guests about the Lusitanos' history, and also perform a traditional Quadrille. Using four talented Lusitano horses, the riders will perform a beautiful dressage test in sync with music and each horse. All of the horses and riders will be wearing traditional Portuguese attire and tack.
