Ward Chasing Spruce Meadows Bonus

(SPRUCE MEADOWS, Calgary, AB): The $ 1 million CN Precision Series continues tomorrow at Spruce Meadows with the CN Performance World Cup Grand Prix. Two time Olympic Gold medalist McLain Ward (USA) will be focused on scoring his second win of the Spruce Meadows Grand Prix season against a top international entry.

“My plan all year has been to focus on Spruce Meadows and success in the CN Precision Series,” said Ward following his victory in the opening event of the CN Precision Series a week ago. “It will not be easy. This is the best venue in the world and the best riders compete here, but I feel good about my preparation and my horse.”

His 11 year old gelding Antares F has adapted well to Spruce Meadows during his first season here. Last week he carried Ward to a double clear result in the $200,000 CN Reliability Grand Prix.

“He has all the tools to be a championship horse and this is the place to find out,” said Ward leading into the second event of the four event series. “When you have the likes of Hickstead, In Style, and Via Volo in the entry nothing comes easy.”

2012 Olympic Summer Games course designer Bob Ellis (GBR) will design the test on the Meadows of the Green course for a field that will include Ian Millar, Beezie Madden, Richard Spooner, Michael Whitaker, and world #1 Eric Lamaze all trying to deny Ward a second win of the season aboard Antares F.

The CN Performance World Cup begins Sunday at 1:30 at Spruce Meadows on the Meadows on the Green course.
