Masters' Tournament Preview

 

 

Spruce Meadows is pleased to welcome the competitors, sponsors, exhibitors and of course – the fans to the 2013 ‘Masters’ Tournament  September 4th to September 8th. The five day tournament is sure to be fun-filled entertainment for the whole family.

As always the ‘Masters’ Tournament will be packed with great international show jumping with riders and horses coming from all over the world to compete in world class events. Wednesday and Thursday of the ‘Masters’ Tournament will play host to some great competitions including the $85,000 Finning Cup (Wednesday) and the $125,000 CANA Cup (Thursday). The $75,000 ATCO Electric ‘Circuit’ Six Bar is held on Friday evening and is a fan favorite. The Mercedes-Benz 'Evening of the Horse' will also theme the Friday evening of the 'Masters' Tournament including special features such as the German State Stud Stallions and a high level firework finale to top off the night.

The BMO Nations Cup draws riders from all over the world to compete in the team event which takes place on the Saturday of the ‘Masters’ Tournament. Complimenting the BMO Nations Cup will be the BMO Fan Centre in which you can have the opportunity to meet some of the world's top equestrian athletes. Keep a look out for schedules and times on our website. Sunday September 8th is the final day of the ‘Masters’ Tournament and the fourth leg of the CN Precision Series – The $1,000,000 CN International. This year the ‘Masters’ Tournament will also be part of  the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping which consists of the long established Grand Prix events at each of the three tournaments – CHIO Aachen, the  CSIO Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ Tournament and CHI Geneva. Any rider who wins multiple events during the cycle is eligible for significant bonus money in addition to the championship purses being offered at each of the individual Grand Prix events.

The TELUS Battle of the Breeds will be making its annual appearance at the ‘Masters’ Tournament with teams competing in various tests of horsemanship such as Jeopardy Jumping, Precision Driving and Barrel Racing to prove their breed is the most versatile. Throughout the grounds the Household Calvary, the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery and the Band of the Irish Guards Presented by GE Canada  are just some of the entertainment options available during the 'Masters' Tournament. Friday thru Sunday fans of all ages can enjoy performances by the Spruce Meadows Prairie Dogs presented by RE/MAX  while the Pony Rides presented by Kozy Shack will run Wednesday thru Sunday of the 'Masters' Tournament. The RE/MAX Family Centre will also be open daily - located south of the International Ring, this home-away-from-home has literally everything. There are handicap-accessible washrooms, changing facilities and a private nursing room for new moms. The bright and sunny kitchen is equipped with a fridge, microwave, telephone and plenty of first-aid supplies - A relaxed living room and spacious play area round out the homey atmosphere.

This year we celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Equi-Fair at the ‘Masters’ Tournament. Vendors offer unique, high quality items you may not find anywhere else! For the shopping enthusiast vendors will be offering various products from jewellery and clothing to gourmet cooking items and of course horse-related products (including tack, show wear, and stabling materials). Within the Equi-Fair there is also a designated area (situated around the wine bar) for artists where they can show and sell great artwork including paintings and sculptures. After a stint of shopping what better way to rest your feet than to sit and enjoy the Flavours of the World – located in the Lower International Plaza you can take your pick of various cuisines from all around the world.
