Whitaker Spruce Meadows Champion

(Calgary, Alberta:) There were ups and downs last week at the Spruce Meadows National Tournament for British rider Ellen Whitaker. Her week in the International Ring had been a bit of a challenge for Ellen and her horses so as she was lining up for presentations for the NEXEN Cup, Ellen was feeling a “little grumpy” about her week. However, at least her consistency paid off over the four days of championship competition.

“It was a total surprise for me to win the Spruce Meadows Canadian Championship.” Ellen smiled. “It made me feel much happier – it didn’t change my scores over the week but I ended off with a better feeling!”

"My horses arrived a week before I did and were quite fresh. My goal was to ride them down a bit this week and then come up with a plan for the following weeks.”
