The Winnipeg Sun reports that:
Ten horses were killed by transport trucks and a train while running loose Monday evening in southwestern Manitoba.
According to the report:
RCMP were called to the scene after it was reported that several horses had been struck and killed by truck traffic on the Trans-Canada Highway.
Four horses had been killed on over a stretch of less than one kilometre of the highway by semi-trailers. One injured horse was taken to be cared for by a veterinarian.
Six other horses were killed by a train on Canadian National Railway's main line, which runs parallel to the highway.
RCMP said a total of 17 horses are believed to have escaped from their enclosure in RM of Wallace.
