Latest relief efforts in Egypt - update from the field
This is the first time my horse has eaten nutritional food since the demonstrations began. My horse was starving and not able to work – the Brooke has saved his life and mine too as he is my main source of income - Hamada Hussein, horse owner in Edfu and father of four.
Working with others
Working with the governorates of Giza, Edfu, Aswan and Luxor, the Brooke is distributing food and providing treatment, particularly to horses and donkeys used in tourism, now at increased risk.
Together with the local community group, in Giza, 186 owners have been provided with emergency food packs for their horses.
The Brooke is combining forces with the Donkey Sanctuary and the Egyptian Society for Animal Friends (ESAF) to ensure the best treatment of needy horses and donkeys across Egypt. The Brooke has also been working with Aswan City Council to treat horses and donkeys and to distribute food.
The Brooke has launched an urgent appeal to help at least 2,000 working animals suffering as a result of the crisis in Egypt.
