Auction appeal in aid of local children with additional needs

The Donkey Sanctuary is appealing for prizes to auction off at its annual Charity Summer Ball on Friday 10th August.  All profits will go towards helping children with additional needs in East Devon through the provision of donkey riding therapy, with prizes going under the hammer of TV auctioneer Graham Barton.

Up for grabs last year were prizes ranging from spa vouchers, sightseeing flights and donkey carer experience days, to a week’s holiday in Spain and a day with Olympic equestrian eventer, Mary King.

Jennie Jepperson, Centre Co-ordinator for the charity’s donkey therapy work in Sidmouth, says:

“Our Charity Summer Ball is shaping up to be a great night out, and it is also one of our key fundraising events for the year.  The auctioning of prizes generously donated by our supporters at last year’s event raised £1,704 for our donkey therapy work.  We are delighted to welcome back Graham Barton, auctioneer for Clive Emson and BBC Homes Under The Hammer, who will be putting each of the donated items under the gavel for The Donkey Sanctuary. Any donated prizes for this year’s event will be very gratefully received and will help us to support children with additional needs in the local area through the provision of donkey riding therapy.”

To discuss the donation of prizes for the charity auction, or to book tickets for the event, please call 01395 573009.  Tickets for the Charity Summer Ball, which will be held in the Grand Marquee in the grounds of The Donkey Sanctuary from 7pm on Friday 10th August, are available at a cost of £35 each. Group discounts are available. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for this event.

Over 150 children with special needs and disabilities from 30 local schools in the surrounding areas benefit from donkey riding therapy at the Sidmouth centre each week.  For more information please call 01395 573009 or visit www.thedonkeysanctuary.org.uk/riding-therapy.

The Grand Marquee will also be in use during the charity’s annual Summer Fair on Sunday 12th August.  For details of events taking place at The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth this summer, please visit www.thedonkeysanctuary.org.uk/visit.
