Charity Summer Fair

The Donkey Summer Fair is the biggest family event to take place this year at The Donkey Sanctuary located near Sidmouth – it starts at 10am on Sunday 14th August 2011 and admission is free.

The Sanctuary and its sister charity, The Elisabeth Svendsen Trust (EST), which provides donkey-riding therapy to children with special needs, will be hosting a wide range of activities and displays for the enjoyment of all the family.

Trailer rides, Punch and Judy, a barbeque, bouncy castle, face painting, dog agility, a beer tent, Dorset band The Wonkey Donkeys and various fun inflatables are just some of the highlights.

Amanda Gordon, PR Officer for both charities says: “Last year was a great success with literally thousands of visitors and we are certain it will be the same again this year! There’s simply something for everyone, it really is a super day out.

“We have several displays including a donkey riding display where local children with special needs will demonstrate the skills they have learnt since coming to our EST centre for riding therapy.

“Any funds raised on the day will be a great help towards both of our charities; we rely entirely on donations to carry out our work.”

The two charities are connected by the late Dr Elisabeth Svendsen, MBE, who founded The Donkey Sanctuary in 1969 and EST (formerly The Slade Centre) in 1975.
