Free open day at Derbyshire Donkey Sanctuary

International animal welfare charity The Donkey Sanctuary’s Derbyshire Centre, situated in Flagg near Buxton, is hosting a FREE open day for members of the public to visit its adorable rescued and unwanted donkeys on Sunday 1st July from 10am till 4pm.

Visitors can meet the staff and get ‘hands on’ with the donkeys. There will be hot drinks and refreshments available, donkey-related goods for sale along with showings of The Donkey Sanctuary’s film describing the charity’s work worldwide.

Chris Pile who runs the centre says: “The donkeys enjoy all the extra fuss and attention they get on our open days and the events give visitors an insight to our work – it’s a lovely day for all.   This is always a great event to host and we are really looking forward to holding it again on 1^st July.”

The Derbyshire Centre provides permanent refuge to a small number of donkeys who are elderly or have long-term medical conditions.  Other donkeys are provided with respite care until they are fit enough to travel to the main Sanctuary in Sidmouth, Devon. An on-site training centre provides a choice of courses in donkey care and welfare.

The centre is open to the public six times per year and hosts regular training courses for donkey owners.
