Guinness World Record recognition for The Donkey Sanctuary

International animal welfare charity The Donkey Sanctuary is this week celebrating being listed as ‘the world’s largest donkey sanctuary’ in the new edition of the Guinness World Records.

Released last Thursday, the 2013 edition is the first time that The Donkey Sanctuary has been listed by the Guiness World Records, recognising the charity’s work providing sanctuary to rescued donkeys and mules in the UK and Europe and international operations with working donkeys in Africa, Asia and Mexico.

Suzi Cretney of The Donkey Sanctuary says: “The Guinness World Records is an internationally recognised institution, many of us grew up with the book being a list of the biggest and best and we’re thrilled that they have chosen to recognise The Donkey Sanctuary. Since 1969 we have provided a sanctuary for over 15,000 donkeys and support projects in 28 countries providing veterinary treatments to sick donkeys and mules and education programmes for communities that rely on their donkeys to carry out essential tasks such as fetching water.”

The Donkey Sanctuary is open for visitors every day of the year with free admission and parking. To find out more about visiting the charity’s headquarters in Sidmouth or about the charity’s work, visit www.thedonkeysanctuary.org.uk or call 01395 578222.
