The Hay Bank: An Innovative Way to Support At-Risk Horses

The Oaklandpress.com is reporting on an equine welfare and rescue organization which has developed a preemptive strategy to help horses at risk for neglect or rescue.

The Michigan Horse Welfare Coalition (MHWC) has a program which allows struggling horse owners to apply for hay or feed support.  The MHWC then inspects the applicant's farm to ensure that the animals are well-cared for and that the owners are not breeding more horses before issuing a check to the applicant's hay or feed supplier.

This program presents a means by which struggling horses owners can get assistance before their animals start to lose condition and health.
