Twenty-three Horses Ordered to be Returned to Convicted Animal Abuser
3News.co.nz reports that a High Court ruling orders the SPCA and foster caregivers to return twenty-three horses to their previous owner. The animals had been seized in horrendous condition over eight years ago.
The previous owner, Ann Power, who lives outside Auckland, New Zealand, had been convicted of animal neglect three times prior to the 2003 seizure.
The SPCA is planning to appeal the Order, while foster caregivers are vowing to hide the animals to avoid returning them. 3News.co.nz quoted one of the foster parents as saying:
‘[Power] was never punished for starving and neglecting the horses, she thumbed her nose at the court system and is now being rewarded for it by having the horses returned to her in good health and socialized. Why did no one stand up for the horses?’
