Job Description

The Para Dressage Chef d'Equipe / Technical Advisor responsibilities:
➢ In coordination with the High Performance Para Dressage Committee (HPPDC), develop and
implement the 2013-2016 High Performance Para Dressage Plan to achieve objectives defined by the HPPDC, with assistance as needed from USEF staff. These objectives include but are not limited to the following:

➢ The primary goal is winning a team medal at the Paralympic Games and World Equestrian

Games, as well as CPEDI competitions.

➢ Monitor, in conjunction with the athlete's personal trainer, the training and preparation of candidate athlete/horse combinations for international championships such as the Paralympic and World Equestrian Games, and other competitions mutually agreed upon with the USEF staff; in this capacity, the Chef d'Equipe / Technical Advisor will travel as appropriate, advising athletes, as appropriate, of areas for improvement.

➢ Monitor and gauge the talent of prospective international competition horses and riders; areas for improvement will be identified and communicated, as appropriate, to their riders and their personal trainers. Should not act as trainer (unless specifically requested by the athlete).

➢ Serve in the role of Chef d'Equipe:

➢ Act as the Chef d'Equipe at the Paralympic and World Equestrian Games, and at other

CPEDI's as mutually agreed upon each year.

➢ Serve as a non-voting Advisor to the Para Dressage Selectors.

➢ Work with and under the direction of the HPPDC, and the Director of Para-Equestrian Dressage High Performance Programs, and perform the duties outlined above at times and locations mutually agreed upon by the Technical Advisor/Chef d'Equipe and USEF.

➢ Provide a progress report at every HPPDC meeting.

➢ Provide an annual written year-end performance report to the Director of PE Dressage High Performance Programs and the Chairman of the HPPDC, for their review and analysis.

➢ Attend Para Dressage continuing education as available.

➢ Strengthen the Athlete Pipeline:

➢ Monitor and collaborate with existing comprehensive programs for all USEF National Coaches for the Developing and Youth programs, as well as the Paralympic Disabled Veteran Program.

➢ Provide strategic guidance for athletes, as needed, to aid in achieving their international competition potential and success.

➢ Assist in coordinating, facilitating, and promoting education specific to Para Dressage for coaches, trainers, officials, and athletes.

➢ Coordinate and support athlete/horse combinations, in conjunction with their personal

trainer and support staff, for international competitions.

➢ Assist in finding quality horses for the Para Dressage team.

➢ Assist in providing access for US riders into worldwide CPEDIs.

➢ Arrange for outside clinicians/judges to conduct observation sessions.

➢ Act as an advocate and to promote US athletes and horses to generate interest and

enthusiasm in Para Dressage, especially with potential sponsors and owners.

➢ Additionally, there is agreement that during specific period(s) of time when the Technical Advisor/Chef d'Equipe is required to perform services for USEF, he/she will not be engaged by another individual or organization during the same time period without permission from USEF.

➢ Disclose personal conflicts of interest.

➢ Be domiciled in the US.

The Dressage Technical Advisor/ Chef d'Equipe should have the following qualities:
➢ The strong desire to win.
➢ Strong leadership skills including the ability to inspire.
➢ Strong organization and clerical skills.
➢ Ability to exercise judgment and discretion, especially during stressful situations.
➢ Ability to think strategically on a national and international level, considering athletes throughout the country at top National level.
➢ Knowledgeable and influential internationally.
➢ Ability to have good relations with media.
➢ Ability to work well and effectively under pressure and in stressful situations.
➢ A supportive, encouraging and positive attitude towards athletes.
➢ Approachable and forthcoming with advice, guidance and knowledge.
➢ Open minded, flexible, and inventive, preferably including knowledge about adaptive Para Dressage Equipment.
➢ Ability to foster talent, i.e. guide the careers of horses and athletes.
➢ Able to travel in the US and to all areas of the world and be in contact with the riders.
➢ Agreeable to spend approx. 50% of his/her time with administrative duties and 50% on the road.

The Dressage Technical Advisor/ Chef d'Equipe should have the following experience:
➢ International Olympic/Championship experience in an Official capacity.
➢ Proven leadership ability to guide the High Performance Plan to Championship level.
➢ Demonstrated ability to work successfully with: athletes, trainers, coaches, judges, veterinarians, owners, and fellow USEF staff members.

The USPEA is a network of riders, judges, national federation board members, and equestrian enthusiasts. In June 2010, the USPEA earned its 501 (c)(3) status which has encouraged supporters to help supply funding to the Para-Equestrian Team as a recognized affiliate of the United States Equestrian Federation(USEF).
