My horse has lived at 3 facilities in the past 6 years, not counting the current place. At the first 2, I did the feeding twice daily. The owner of the first was not interested in learning anything about horses. I was(still am!) learning as well, but I was willing to try learning. Besides helping with building a round pen, his other "contribution" was to provide some space for my horse. About 1300 square feet total!
At the second facility, the owner stated that he was a "retired" cowboy; did ranch work back in the 30s in Idaho. Now, too old to sling 50 lb feed sacks around. So I fed twice daily there as well. He had a goat and an old horse in the pasture that were both good company for my horse. And his price was very affordable!
The next place was a "semi-professional" facility operated by a fomer devotee of a very popular riding discipline. Here it was not cheap but the feeding schedule was strctly ahered to. The proposed increase in fees ended that affair.
Finally, my horse is at a facility that has a caring feeder/owner, is not priced "up there", and knows the business. We have been there over 3 years. No complaints! But she does not make any feed changes in a gradual manner - as much as I ask for that consideration. I have often said "No body takes better care of your horse than you do! Nobody!" Folks that have acreage and horses are blessed!
