Twice a week a group of autistic and ADHD children are brought out to the ranch for horseback riding. It is amazing to see these extremely hyperactive children become so calm on the horses. The simple commands for the horses are perfect for them and keep their attention.

We, Civitan Cancun, are part of an international group, Civitan. Civitan is "devoted to improving the lives of children and adults with developmental disabilities".

Our horses make a huge difference for these children. Many of the mothers come to me with tears saying they never thought to see their child so calm or to hear their child able to express themself so thoroughly.

Here is a great article of how the equine therapy works for autistic children.

Has anyone else used equine therapy for autistic children?
