If the horse is going to be in the reining futuries at age 2 and then 3, then we start the horse in Jan. of their 2 yr old year.

I like to start them earlier. I started working with my reining prospect at 1.5yrs. old. I start climbing off and on their backs at that age. I don't sit up there long; just a minute. I start riding them a little at 2.
The reining portion (maneuvers) is started as soon as they have a basic handle on them. They have to know the basics first.
