How can you tell what a horse is lacking in his diet? Such as metals minerals and vitamins.

I would like to know if there is a way you can tell naturally without blood work.

I would like to know also. I just started my boy on a vitamin & mineral supplement that sounds like it has wonderful benefits, ZenA-min. I just find that the hay does not seem to be as good as it used to be with the bad summer we had. I hope it does not harm him in anyway.
