Position: Executive Director
Full-time effective January 1, 2011
The Organization:
The Ontario Equestrian Federation (OEF) is the umbrella organization committed to the stewardship of all equine: sport; recreation, welfare and to provide leadership, support to the individuals, associations and industries in Ontario’s horse community.
Job Description:
Reporting to the President, the OEF is seeking a capable leader and executive with exceptional influence and relationship-building skills. The Executive Director is responsible for the consistent achievement of the OEF’s mission and objectives in support of delivering its vision. This includes working closely with the Board to identify, develop and implement programs, refine services, market the association, and undertake public relations, professional networking and membership recruitment. In addition, the Executive Director will provide leadership in the daily management of OEF operations, including human resources, fiscal, legal and fiduciary compliance, accounting and budgeting.
Key Responsibilities:
provides proactive leadership to the organization as a whole
actively seeks out member volunteers and engages with them in carrying out the programs and activities of the association
monitors the association’s performance against stated objectives
ensures an adequate balance between current operations and future directions for the association
represents the association to outside parties on matters relating to strategic priorities and administrative activities
assists newly-appointed Board members in becoming acquainted with the association and its policies and procedures
constantly reviews outcomes and makes recommendations for improvements to the Board of Directors
works closely with the Board to assist in the development of the strategic plan and in developing strategies to be used in the plan
Selection Criteria:
degree in business administration or related discipline or equivalent employment history
at least 10 years progressively responsible professional experience, plus 5 years at a senior management level
substantial experience in not-for-profit organizations, including direct involvement with boards, sponsors and communities of interest
CAE designation an asset
experience preparing and managing annual budgets and maintaining financial records
expertise in leading the service development process, from initial member interface, through the development of performance criteria, through to service delivery
maintain strong working relationships as well as demonstrated ability to develop effective relationships with various stakeholders, including business, government and community representatives
demonstrated success in managing successful services and/or programs with a value added focus
experience in developing and implementing bylaws and policy guidelines
working knowledge of Microsoft Office 2003
Prerequisites:
valid driver’s license is required
some travel will be required, including out of province
occasional weekend and/or evening work is required
