Multiple Olympic gold medal winner Anky van Grunsven has made the decision not to go to the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky later on this year.   She will not go through the whole selection process since her top horse Salinero injured his withers two months ago and has not recovered sufficiently to  be fit for upcoming selection trials.

Salinero was injured after a mishap in his stall. He still needs at least one month of rest before he can be ridden. To be ready for the WEG, Salinero would need another three months to be back in full training.  Because Anky does not  want to jeopardize the healing process, she has decided not to attempt to qualify for the WEG and will give Salinero all the time he needs to recover.

Anky has also made the decision not to go with I.P.S Painted Black. The stallion's competition results have varied up and down the last months and he has had a minor injury as well.  Anky thinks the potential for her to achieve a top placing is very small.  Anky does not think the chances for the Dutch team's success are reduced by her withdrawal. The other Dutch horse/rider combinations have excellent potential to achieve a first rate team effort.
