Asselin’s Magic Day at Spruce Meadows

(SPRUCE MEADOWS, Calgary, AB): For 16 year-old Calgarian, Ben Asselin, there was no better way to wrap up the “Harvest Classic” Tournament than with a win in the 1.40m Direct Energy Business Services Grand Prix. Beating out a top entry that featured 25 horse/rider combinations, Asselin was able to secure the top two placing’s in the final day’s event.

The course was set by course designer, Peter Holmes (CAN), and it featured 15 jumping efforts, with a time allowed of 72 seconds. Of the 25 starters 9 moved on to the jump-off round, where speed and precision would decide a winner.

Ben Asselin was both, first on his 13 year-old Hannoverian gelding, Magic Man and then 2nd with his mare Lolita. Today it was Magic Man’s day, the pair came across the finish line clear in time of 31.98 seconds, for first place. Asselin did not coast in with Lolita however, finishing with another fast time of 32.47 seconds and the second place finish.
