Today's edition of the Breeders' Cup Championships had a unfortunate start in the Juvenile Turf in which Rough Sailing slipped in the first turn, throwing jockey Anna Napravnik.  No other horses were involved in the incident and Napravnik walked off the course, but veterinarian Dr. Wayne McIlwraith reported that Rough Sailing had broken his humerus bone and would have to be euthanized. Pluck, trained by Todd Pletcher, went on to win the race. 

In the BC Sprint, Big Drama went wire-to-wire with Hamazing Destiny in 2nd and Smiling Tiger 3rd.  Atta Boy Roy was pulled up at the wire by Calvin Borel;  Dr. McIlwraith announced that he had suffered a suspensory injury which was not life-threatening.

GOLDIKOVA MAKES HISTORY:  She wins easily for three times in a row in the Breeders Cup TVG Turf Mile.  She shot out of a cannon coming out of the last turn, and blew the competition off to the wire.  Gio Ponti got up for second while The Usual Q T held on for third.

Longshot Dakota Phone (37-1)  grabs the BC Dirt Mile with a strong finish.

Big race in BC Turf - Dangerous Midge grabbed the lead from Champ Pegasus coming to the wire.  Favorite Behkabad ended in third.  

Now on to the Classic and Zenyatta - what we have all been waiting for!

She's being led over to the paddock now - and she's lolling her tongue out the side, stopping and looking at the crowd, and every once in a while she puts her head down and does a few of her patented dance steps, pointing her toes and concentrating on where she goes.  The crowd seems to be holding their collective breath as she walks by - sometimes there is a roar.   The buildup is amazing!

IT WASN'T MEANT TO BE:  To call 2nd place in the Breeders Cup Classic a defeat just doesn't seem right, but Blame got it by a nose.
